Just-in-Time Workshops

To effectively help engineering students gain presentation and public speaking skills, communication instructors run clinics with the engineering students to review example slides from the engineering students’ own presentations and provide critical feedback on their presentation skills. Just-in-Time Workshops ideally take place one to two weeks before formal course presentations to give students an opportunity to practice their content, organization, and delivery. Feedback on these presentations from communication experts gives students confidence in areas they have excelled at and instruction with time for change on areas with less strength. These workshops have previously taken place in the IDEA Lab of the Grainger Engineering Library or in smaller lab rooms which allows for individualized settings for instructors and students to engage in hands-on revision of their public speaking skills.
